As a follow up to my 1st post about seasonality across different shipping sectors, I want to share a set of slides which will serve as reference material, so you can check them whenever you are curious about “what is likely to happen next”, statistically speaking.

I offer no commentary / explanations in this post. That was a conscious choice, because I don’t want to get in the way of what the data says. I also used the full available data set in every case, which in most cases is 1990→last week.

The Y-axis was created by normalizing rates over time: I took the monthly average rate, subtracted the overall mean of these rates across all months and years, and then divided by the standard deviation. This allows for easier comparison across different time periods.

Values close to 0 are near the average.
Positive values are above average.
Negative values are below average.
